About the Parish
Holy Resurrection, Dresden with St Michael, Audley is an established parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese, part of the ancient Patriarchate of Antioch where the followers of Christ were first called Christians. We belong to the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church, worshipping the Holy Trinity and proclaiming Jesus Christ crucified and risen. Rooted in Scripture and the living Tradition of the Church, our life is centred on the Divine Liturgy and the steady transformation of heart and mind in Christ. Whether you are Orthodox or exploring the faith, you are welcome to come and see.

Our Faith – The Holy Orthodox Church

The Orthodox Church was founded by our Lord Jesus Christ and is the living manifestation of His presence in the history of the mankind. The Orthodox Church is evangelical, but not Protestant. It is Orthodox, but not Jewish. It is Catholic, but not Roman.
It isn’t non-denominational – it is pre-denominational. It has believed, taught, preserved, defended and died for the Faith of the Apostles since the Day of Pentecost over 2000 years ago. The Church exists to worship the Holy Trinity, to preach the Gospel to our community, and to transfigure the lives of her children into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
Our Archbishop- His Eminence Metropolitan Silouan

Work in the Orthodox youth movement since his youth, appointed President of the Lataquieh Centre for the Orthodox Youth Movement (2001-2003).
Appointed by His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East abbot of the Patriarchal Monastery of St. George Al Humaira.
Fr. Silouan was ordained to the episcopate on Sunday 30th August 2015 at the Monastery of St. George, Al-Humraiyah in Syria. He was later enthroned as Metropolitan on 27th February 2016 at the Cathedral Church of St George, London.

Our Priest – Archpriest Samuel Carter

From childhood, Fr. Samuel was nurtured in the Christian faith. His mother prayed with the family each evening, and regular attendance at church and Sunday school formed a steady foundation. Daily reading of Scripture was encouraged, and growing up within an evangelical Anglican parish gave him a strong grounding in the Bible.
While studying Theology at Durham University, he was drawn toward the Anglo-Catholic tradition within Anglicanism. He went on to serve as a priest in the Church of England for twenty-three years, gaining broad pastoral experience and accompanying people through the full range of life’s joys and trials.
With deep gratitude to his family, the Church of England, and the many parishioners who shaped his ministry, he was eventually received into the Holy Orthodox Church. He treasures the depth of Orthodox worship and the richness of Holy Tradition, and considers it a profound blessing to help others encounter the love of God within the fullness of the Orthodox faith.
Our Deacon – Fr Deacon John Maxfield
Deacon John was received into the Orthodox Church through Holy Chrismation in 1985, together with his family, by Archimandrite Barnabas Burton, one of the significant early Orthodox missionaries in Britain during the twentieth century. Raised in mid-Wales and Shropshire, he assisted his parents in the early establishment of an Orthodox parish in Shrewsbury.
He studied Classics at Durham University and, following graduation, pursued a professional career as a chartered surveyor, working in Shropshire, Somerset, and now Cheshire.
He is married to Philothei, and they have three children. The family has been part of the parish in Stoke-on-Trent since 2008.
He was ordained to the diaconate by Metropolitan Silouan on 6 April 2025 and now serves the parish alongside Fr Samuel.

The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-Begotten, begotten of the Father before all worlds, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten, not made; of one essence with the Father; by Whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man; And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; The third day He arose again, according to the Scriptures; And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father; And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead; Whose Kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe in One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sin. I look for the Resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
